“Falling Under” by Gwen Hayes

Summary (from Good Reads):  Theia Alderson has always led a sheltered life in the small California town of Serendipity Falls. But when a devastatingly handsome boy appears in the halls of her school, Theia knows she’s seen Haden before- not around town, but in her dreams.

As the Haden of both the night and the day beckons her closer one moment and pushes her away the next, the only thing Theia knows for sure is that the incredible pull she feels towards him is stronger than her fear.

And when she discovers what Haden truly is, Theia’s not sure if she wants to resist him, even if the cost is her soul.

This review was originally published at Good Reads, who provided me a paperback ARC copy of this book last year.  I only include a summary of the book because my original review did not include a description of the plot – it was one of my first reviews, after all.  My book reviewing skills were a bit rusty.

I’m not very good at reviewing books, but since this was an ARC I won recently, I have to.

I really liked it – it was a little slow at first, but it got really good towards the end. It is obviously going to be a series, and I am looking forward to reading the second one.

It’s a love story and the beginning of it reminded me of the relationship between Bella and Edward of Twilight (the whole “I’m bad for you, stay away from me” thing) but for those who hate Twilight, it gets better.

I don’t want to spoil it too much but it’s a bit unique among all the other paranormal romances out there. I also liked how macabre and spooky the places Theia went to when she fell asleep.

The writing was also pretty good. No purple prose and no teeny-bopper speak either, just good solid and beautiful writing.
